Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, our representative will greet you and transfer you to Springlands Hotel in Moshi for overnight accommodation, with full board provided.

Moshi to Simba Camp

Moshi to Simba Camp

After breakfast and a briefing, you will meet your guides and porters to prepare for your journey to Rongai. The trek starts from the charming wooden village of Nale Moru (1,950m) and winds through crop fields before entering a pine forest. The trail then gradually ascends through the forest, offering sightings of wildlife like the Kilimanjaro Colobus monkey. The day's hike concludes at the first campsite, either 1st Cave or Simba Campsite, located at the edge of the moorland zone (2,600m), with stunning views over the Kenyan plains. Duration: 3 - 4 hours.

Note

Please note your meals and water when on your trek is fully covered and so you won't have to worry about meals and drinks when on the mountain, though it is advisable to bring snacks for your climb.

Simba Camp to Kikelelwa Camp

Simba Camp to Kikelelwa Camp

The morning hike is a steady ascent to the 'Second Cave' (3,450m), providing splendid views of Kibo and the Eastern ice fields on the crater rim. After lunch, the trail veers off the main route, crossing the moorland towards the peaks of Mawenzi. Overnight stay at Kikelewa or 2nd Caves Campsite (3,600m). Duration: 6 - 7 hours walking.

Kikelelwa Camp to Mawenzi Tarn Camp

Kikelelwa Camp to Mawenzi Tarn Camp

A short yet steep climb up grassy slopes rewards trekkers with panoramic views and a true sense of wilderness. The journey continues to Mawenzi Tarn (4,330m), nestled in a cirque beneath the towering spires of Mawenzi. The afternoon offers free time for rest or exploration to aid acclimatization. Overnight at Mawenzi Turn Hut Campsite or 3rd Cave Campsite. Duration: 3 - 4 hours walking.

Mawenzi Tarn Camp to Kibo Campsite

Mawenzi Tarn Camp to Kibo Campsite

Crossing the lunar desert of the 'Saddle' between Mawenzi and Kibo, the trek reaches School/Kibo Campsite (4,750m) at the base of the Kibo crater wall. The day is spent resting in preparation for the final ascent. Duration: 4 - 5 hours walking.

Summit Day!

Summit Day!

The summit attempt begins around 1 a.m. with a steep and demanding climb by torchlight. Slowly ascending through loose volcanic scree, trekkers reach the crater rim at Gillman’s Point (5,685m) to witness a spectacular sunrise over Mawenzi. The journey continues to Uhuru Peak (5,896m) for those feeling strong, before descending to Kibo (4,700m) and onward to Horombo Campsite (3,720m). Duration: 11 - 15 hours walking.

Horombo Huts back to Springlands Hotel

A steady descent through moorland leads to Mandara Hut (2,700m), the first stop on the Marangu route. Continuing through lush forest, the trek concludes at the Marangu National Park gate (1,830m). Transfer to Springlands Hotel in Moshi for overnight stay. Duration: 5 - 6 hours walking.

Transfer to the airport for your departure flight, or proceed to your next adventure, such as a safari.

Please note the transfer is not included and needs to be added as an extra for this day. You can choose to be dropped off at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha. Alternatively you can arrange a ride directly when at Springlands Hotel.
