Springlands Hotel to 1st Cave or Simba Campsite

Springlands Hotel to 1st Cave or Simba Campsite

After breakfast and a briefing, meet your guides and porters to prepare your equipment before departing for Rongai. Start from Nale Moru village (1,950m) and follow a path through crop fields and pine forest. The trail climbs gently through a wildlife-rich forest, including the Kilimanjaro Colobus monkey. Camp at the edge of the moorland zone (2,600m) with views over the Kenyan plains after 3–4 hours. Overnight at 1st Cave or Simba Campsite.

Note

Please note that all meals and water are included for the entire duration of your climb on Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Simba Camp to Kikelewa Caves

Simba Camp to Kikelewa Caves

Ascend steadily to Second Cave (3,450m) with views of Kibo and the Eastern ice fields. Post-lunch, diverge from the main trail toward Mawenzi's jagged peaks. Camp near Kikelewa Caves (3,600m) in a sheltered valley. Dinner and overnight at 2nd Caves Campsite, with 6–7 hours of walking.

Kikelelwa Camp to 3rd Caves or Mawenzi Tarn Hut

An acclimatisation day starting leisurely around noon, moving toward Mawenzi. Camp at 3rd Caves or Mawenzi Tarn Hut. Expect 4–5 hours of walking over a 6 km distance.

Mawenzi Tarn Camp

Mawenzi Tarn Camp

A steep climb through grassy slopes offers spectacular views and wilderness. Reach Mawenzi Tarn (4,330m), set beneath Mawenzi's spires. The afternoon is for rest or exploration to aid acclimatisation. Overnight at Mawenzi Tarn Hut Campsite, with 3-4 hours of walking.

Mawenzi Tarn Camp to Kibo Campsite

Mawenzi Tarn Camp to Kibo Campsite

Traverse the lunar Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo to Kibo campsite (4,750m) at Kibo crater wall's base. Rest for the final ascent. Dinner and overnight at Kibo Camp, with a midnight start to the summit planned. Walking time is 4-5 hours.

Summiting Kilimanjaro at Uhuru Peak!

Summiting Kilimanjaro at Uhuru Peak!

Begin the final, steepest climb by torchlight around 1:00 am, reaching Gillman’s Point (5,685m) on the crater rim to enjoy the sunrise. Optionally continue to Uhuru Peak (5,896m). Descend to Kibo (4,700m) for refreshment, then down to Horombo (3,720m) for dinner and overnight. Walking time is 11-15 hours.

Horombo Hut to Springlands Hotel

Descend through moorland to Mandara Hut (2,700m), then through lush forest to Marangu Gate (1,830m) over 6–7 hours. Transfer back to Springlands Hotel for an overnight stay on a full board basis.
